Pantherophis guttatus
Collins and Norma
P guttatus, also known as "corn snakes" or "rat snakes", are found across the southern US and into Mexico. They are small-to-medium size snakes that excel at rodent population control. Corn snakes are popular pets due to their manageable size (2-6 feet), hardiness, and calm temperament. They are now found in a wide variety of colors and patterns. Most keepers will say that corn snakes are fun to hold, but move more than many other species.
Collins hatched in 2024 at ECW Reptiles. He was our first snake and made multiple get-aways - once for 8 months! - before we learned how to keep him contained. He is a sweet, easy snake to hold. Playing off of the "corn snake" title, we named him "Collins" after the character Corny Collins on "Hairspray".
Norma hatched in 2024 at Exotic Reptile Creations. ERC had raised her around kids of all ages, making her an easy-going snake for kids of all ages to meet. Norma is the "normal" color and pattern of a milk snake in the wild. As a typical corn snake, she is an expert at finding any small, dark place to hide in.
